[Katsuren Castle- estimated to have been built in the 12-13th centuries. The most famous ruler was Amawari who lived here in 1458 and had a thriving overseas trade. He also tried to attack Shuri Castle and overthrow the king, but was defeated.]

This morning, we went on a true adventure. We hopped in the car and drove with no destination in mind and no map in hand. We had no plans except to find some place fun, exciting and hopefully, not crowded (it is Saturday). As we were driving, I happened to see a sign that said,"Katsuren-Jo Site 10.4km". I had no idea what it was, but hey, it's an adventure. After a couple wrong turns we finally found the place. Hey, third times the charm, right? Mary said, "See, it's important you don't give up." By the time we got there, the kids were ready to stretch their legs and boy, did they get the opportunity. Katsuren Castle is situated a top a huge hill that provided fabulous views and some serious exercise.

Adam partook of the local snacks. There were rocks, grass, rocks, leaves, rocks and a poor snail lost his life today. I would like to take a moment to apologize to the innocent creature that had to see Adam's finger coming right for him, digging him out and shoving him in his mouth. Escargot anyone? Ewwwww!!! Luckily, I had wet wipes...
lots of them.

There were breathtakingly beautiful views.

{I'm not exactly sure if she liked this one or not}

A successful adventure! Bye-bye Castle! An elderly man saw me and offered to take my picture. Mary refused to participate, since she was already halfway down and didn't feel like climbing back up to us. I showed her the picture afterward and asked her what she thought. "You look old." She replied. Serves me right for asking her opinion. Lesson learned. Ahh, the brutal and sometimes painful honesty of children.

Oh, how I love your posts! I'm still laughing about Mary's "pointing finger" and your caption. Ha ha ha
Oh, and what an AWESOME adventure! :)
Wonderful adventure! Give Mary a few years and she'll appreciate how young you look.
