8 weeks today

I finally got a picture of Adam smiling! 8 weeks old today. What a handsome little man he's turning out to be...even though I am a bit biased. He's becoming quite the chunk too. I'm so curious to find out how much he weighs, since he feels like he's at least 10 lbs. It's hard to believe the doc was worried at his 2 week appt because he hadn't gained any weight since his discharge from the hospital. He's now cooing, gurgling, smiling and according to Doug, pooping (didn't use that exact word) like a caulk gun. This boy can poop. Our lives are so much busier, definitely more challenged, but also incredibly changed for the better because of this little addition. Happy 8 week b-day Adam!

5 little Monkeys

The song goes...5 little monkeys jumping on the bed. One fell off and bumped his head. Mama called the doctor and the doctor said, "No more monkeys jumping on the bed." Enjoy.

I know I'm not crazy

When Adam was born, I noticed he had small creases in his eyelids like I do. Mary doesn't have any creases..very Asian looking. Of course, I guess I look pretty Asian anyways. The point of this story is that now he only has ONE creased eyelid. How weird is that? His right eyelid crease is gone! Another weird thing is the more you say crease, the stranger it sounds. Ok, maybe that's just me and my crazy sleep deprived brain. Hey, you're lucky I'm even posting anything in a relatively timely fashion. So if you click on the picture and enlarge it, you'll see what I'm talking about. The first picture is early in his 6 week and the second picture is later that same week. See? I'm not imagining it. It's easier to see in person, but for those of you that have to keep up with us long distance here are some pictures.

On a side note, not only is he now missing a right eyelid crease, his right ear still pokes out farther than his left. Oh boy, what is it with his right side? We keep waiting for that ear to settle into place, but maybe it already has. It's a good thing he's so gosh darn cute or he might be a bit funny looking. On the plus side, he has a beautiful belly button!

Mary-isms

A compilation of some of my favorite Mary sayings. It's so funny what toddlers will say.

Adam crying
Mary: "mom, I plugged him in."
Adam now has a pacifier in his mouth

Mary: "I peed in my panties."
Me: "Yes you did."
Mary: "It's disgusting."
Me: "Yes it is."
Mary: "It drives me crazy crazy."

Adam was fussing in the living room. I was doing dishes before we left for the airport to pick up Doug.
Mary: "Mom, I need to wash it." holding Adam's pacifier
Me: "Ok, go wash it in your bathroom sink."
A few min later, he stops crying
Mary: "I told him, hang on man."
Adam quietly sucking on his pacifier

And just last night...
Mary: "Mom, I went poo-poo."
Me: "Was it big?"
Mary: "It was holy moley."

Ah, that girl makes us laugh.

5 weeks old- it goes so fast!

Adam was having a particularly alert morning the other day and I was able to get a video. He's starting to coo occasionally and smile (though it may be gas related...that boy is a perpetual gas machine). From the angle I was shooting, his head looks ginormous!

I find it amazing how the genes from each parent can mix around to combine a totally unique individual. I grew up with 2 older brothers. Together, I never thought they looked like siblings, but put them with my parents, and I could tell they were related. Bill favored Mom, but with Dad's eyes and Carl favored Dad with Mom's eyes. Cool. I, on the other hand, favored Boots, the dog. We both had short legs and LOTS of thick black hair. All humor aside, I yearned for children of my own. I wanted, no needed, to see how my genes would mix with Doug's to our kids. When we couldn't get pregnant, I accepted the fact that we would have to adopt and I was at peace with it. Heck, if my parent's hadn't adopted me, I don't know where I would be today, so I thank them from the bottom of my heart. I won't lie and say we weren't ecstatic when we found out we were pregnant with Mary. We were. And once again, we have been blessed with another beautiful child...who looks completely different from Mary. I don't see as many of the Asian traits with Adam as I do Mary. Adam's hair is lighter (Doug's current color), his eyes are bluer than hers ever were (I know that all changes, but it would be cool if his turn hazel like Dad) and most noticeable his smell is different. Yep, I said it...smell. You ever notice that you have a certain distinctive smell? One day, Mary was sitting in Doug's lap and he leaned over and smelled the top of her head and said, "yep, she's my kid." She may look like me, but she smells like him. The other day, I was in the kitchen and Doug (holding Adam) came up to me, smelled my head and then smelled Adam. "He smells like you", he said. So Adam may end up looking more like Doug, but he's definitely mine. I hope I didn't just gross anyone out with this post. And I better not catch any of you smelling my head.
