It's A "Naka" Kind Of Day

What shall we do today?
Another adventure, here we come!  This morning, we grabbed some snacks, grabbed our sunglasses and grabbed some friends and went hunting for more excitement.  Our journey kept us close to home today as we travelled to Nakagusuku Castle (Our first Naka) a mere 2.4 km away.  Built back in the late 14th century, this is one of the best preserved castles in the prefecture.  With an elevation of 150-160 meters above sea level, we once again, had some hills to climb.
This was a great place to get all the wiggles out.  Lots of wide open spaces to run around.

My little explorers

And positive (non-whiny) adventurers get rewarded with a treat.  Today, it was mango ice cream!  YUM!
Since the morning was still young, we decided to visit another Naka...The Nakamura House.  This early 15th century rich farmer's residence is located not even a full kilometer away from the castle.  That's because it was originally the the home of a man named Gashi.  "Lord Gosamaru of Zakimi (sound familiar?) had received an order from the king in Shuri to relocate his castle to Nakagusuku (see above adventure).  Gashi served as Gosamaru's teacher until the latter's downfall at the hands of Lord Amawari of Katsuren Castle (familiar too?)  just across from Nakagusuku Bay."-The Nakamura House brochure.  Mary kept wondering where the people who lived here were.  I had to keep telling her over and over that people lived her long ago, but not anymore.  I think she's still confused as to why we got to see their house, but they wouldn't cook us dinner.

The kids had such a great time running, I mean walking, around the house.  Adam really, really wanted to move the sign that told us what room this used to be.  Of course, it was in Japanese, so maybe the sign really said, "Please, maintain control of your children at all times!" Oops, sorry.
You would think he's smiling at me, but no, he's proud that he removed his shoe.

The best place for my little piggie...the Pig Sty.

So that was our "Naka" day.  Two different places = double the fun.  Thanks for joining us!  See you next time.
