Thanks Brandi for tagging me. I now know how few friends I really have. I'm supposed to send this to 7 friends with blogs and I only have 3. Even that's a stretch since one of them writes on hers once every couple of months (oh you know who you are...). So instead of following the rules and sending it on, I will just list my 7 random/weird facts that people can read and hopefully enjoy.
1) I'm double jointed- toes and fingers. I can "click" my toes back and forth and it grosses Doug out. I think it's cool. Whenever I feel like annoying him, I do it. Good thing it doesn't happen too often.
2) I was obsessed with having a child of my own. Doug and I had always talked about adoption and when we couldn't get pregnant we started the paperwork. But deep down, I was so sad. Because I'm an adoptee, I missed knowing where I genetically came from. Do I have my mother's eyes, my father's nose? Who gave me the incredibly long earlobes? I always yearned for a photo of my birth parents. I had to have a baby so I could see what I passed on. Does that sound vain? I hope not. It was just something that I felt I had to do. Now I look at Mary and chuckle. I didn't mean to pass on everything. If we can't have another child, by all means I am open to adoption. We would love to offer a child a stable, supportive, loving home like my parents did for me. I am forever grateful to them.
3) I'm a terrible navigator. I can't read a map to save my life. Of course, the motion sickness doesn't help when I'm trying to figure out where we are and how to get somewhere else. We've learned over the years that I drive and Doug navigates. Thank goodness, I usually have a pretty good memory and if I've been there once, I can find my way back again.
4) I can be pretty ditsy. One of my favorite stories...When I was in college applying for the Navy and the nursing scholarship one of the questions was- Can you swim under water 50 feet? I pondered this for a long time. Finally, I called my Mom for help. I didn't know if I should say "no" or fib and say "yes". I mean, I was on the swim team as a kid, so I know how to swim. Mom said, "what's the problem?" I said, "I've never been in a pool that's deeper than 8 feet." I could literally hear her rolling her eyes. "I think they mean 50 feet across, not down." Thank goodness mother's have to love their children. Ditsy or not.
5) I LOVE food. I'm not a "foodie", since fancy food costs a lot, doesn't fill me up, and most of the time sounds a bit unappealing. However, I really enjoy eating. I remember vacations by the food we ate. I remember Doug taking me to get a crepe for dessert on our 2nd date and how on each vacation we'd look for a creperie. Even to this day, whenever I eat a crepe I remember those wonderful feelings of new love.
6) Since I love food, it's only natural that I love to cook. It doesn't extend to cleaning up, though. I used to try a new recipe every week when we were first married. It's easy to get into ruts and cook the same thing over and over, so I try to experiment. Doug doesn't seem to mind. I may not try something new every week anymore, but at least a couple of times a month.
7) I'm addicted to okinawayardsales.com. I don't buy that much, but I'm constantly on the website. It's almost like I'm afraid that someone will post something that "I just have to have" and it will be sold before I can get it. It's weird. I've never been this crazy about something. I have to make myself log off in the afternoon and not look at it again until the next day. Of course, then I scroll through and see all the things I missed and that other people bought.
Well, I hope all of you had a good laugh at my quirkiness and enjoyed this blog. Now I have to go get ready for the play group's Halloween party. I can't wait to see all the kiddos.
