Can you believe there's an Oktoberfest in Japan? It was actually held on base at the Officer's Club. They have a traditional celebration Saturday and Sunday night, but no one under 20 is allowed. However, a family appropriate Oktoberfest was brunch today and it was so much fun! We were starting to get nervous since Mary would not take a nap this morning and we just knew there would be a melt down while we were out. The brunch was separated into 2 hour blocks, so we could go either 10am-12pm or 12pm - 2pm. We chose the earlier time and a friend with her 16 month old daughter came too. The girls had so much fun. The food was fantastic. There was way too much to choose from and not enough room in my belly to try it all. :( There was an authentic German Oompha band and the kids had a great time dancing to the polka music. Who doesn't? And of course, there was the chicken dance. The girls also walked away with souvenir yodelling stuffed animals...I think they're supposed to be gofers (or beavers) in leiderhosen and a jaunty alpine hat. It's really cute. We named ours Alpine Al. Mary did great. No melt downs and she ate more food today than I have ever seen. She promptly fell asleep in the car on the way home.
