a day at the museum

It's the holiday weekend. Doug has a 96 (4 day weekend for you non-military) and chose to play golf this morning. Mary, Adam and I decided to spend the morning at the kazoo. Oh boy, nothing like the middle of summer, on the weekend, outside. It was hot and sticky. We got there right at 9:30am when it opens and dang if the the upper parking lot wasn't already full and we had to park off in the distance in the grass. I guess they opened a bit early. Luckily, it seemed like all of Okinawa was heading to the huge children's field for fun and games and the zoo part was empty. Did I mention it was hot and sticky? We walked up the super steep hill and started at the birds. It's the season of the cicadas and they are really loud. So loud that Mary was walking around with her hands over her ears. We decided to skip the birds since they stink and I was already starting to feel hot and miserable. We walked over to the monkeys and a leaf from a nearby tree blew down and touched Mary's arm as it fell to the ground. She jumped like someone had come up from behind her and yelled, "BOO!" I quickly got her calmed before she lost it and made the decision that we should walk straight over to the Wonder Museum to get in the AC and quiet. Thank goodness she agreed.

Ahh, the Wonder museum was a "wonder"ful haven. It was empty, quiet and relatively cooler (though still warmer than I would have liked). Here are some pictures from our adventure. It's a little blurry, but I decided to post it anyway, so you can see how big the kids have gotten.

Mary loved this exhibit! Can you see the joy in her face? Ha,ha,ha!

Spinning the wheels made me dizzy, but she enjoyed the pattern changes.

Sadly, Mary's too big for the costumes now. She's grown so much since the last time we were here. The only thing she could find was a sad floppy butterfly hat. Needless to say, she was ready to move to another exhibit quickly.

Had a blast building a structure and seeing where the marble would end up.

And alas, Adam just enjoyed hanging out watching his sister play and gumming his teether.
