Happy Birthday Doug!

I guess since Doug was officially over the hill last year, then this year, he has started his descent...into what, I'm not sure. What do you get for the man that has everything (except car parts, but I'm not buying those)? Something edible. Mary and I chose some good dark chocolate. How does a 3 yr old keep a secret? She doesn't. She patiently waited until 8am, then went and woke Doug up by saying, "Daddy, it's time to wake up and open your chocolate." For the special occasion, we all got 1 piece before breakfast. Yea!

Doug's special dinner was saurbraten, spaetzle, sauteed spinach and garlic. Yum. The finishing touch was a homemade apple strudel with vanilla ice cream. Mary had a great time helping me roll out the dough, spread the breadcrumbs and eat the apple filling as fast as she could.

After bath time, she helped me sprinkle the powdered sugar on top and put on the candles. I figured 41 candles would be a fire hazard and Mary thought 1 just wasn't enough. She thought 5 was the ideal number and I agreed.

"Happy birthday to you...."

Ahh, helping out the old man.

Mmmm, can't forget the whipped cream. Mary "tore it up".
And afterwards...SUGAR RUSH!!!!
Sorry, Adam was already asleep. He missed all the festivities.
Happy birthday Doug. Another year older, another year happier (you are, believe me), another kid added to the family. I love you so much.

A guy can't go wrong when he has two lovely ladies cooking his birthday dinner. Menu sounds yummy. You are such a good cook and with your direction it looks like Mary is headed that way.
