We took Doug to the airport this morning for another business trip. Luckily, this one will only be 4 days, but darn if he isn't going to Hawaii. I forgot how long that ride to the airport is to a small kid. It was rainy, it was rush hour, it took forever (ok, just an hour), but we essentially just drop him off and head back. No getting out to run around and stretch. Yikes. Adam lost it. He was sick and tired of sitting and probably a little hungry. I had to pull over and nurse him, since his screams reached an all time high and Mary was complaining that she couldn't hear her music. She really wanted to go to Jusco and I figured she deserved it considering the ride and the rainy day. We bee lined to the machine popcorn and had a little snack before going to the "airy balls", the play area with the ball pit. Now, I will tell you, it costs 300 yen (essentially $3.50) for 20 min for EACH kid to play in this area, but it's filled with a plethora of toys and has ball pits and tunnels and a slide and dress up clothes... You get the point. It's really cool. They have a rule, you have to make sure you go to the bathroom before entering. There is no in/out privilege. We've never had a problem before. Today, right as we were about to enter, I asked Mary if she had to go. "No", was her quick response. Ok, let's play. I kid you not, 5 min later I hear, "Mom, I have to go potty." Are you serious?!?! "I asked you and you said no!" I was so mad. Maybe it was because I was tired. Maybe it was because Adam was really having fun, since it was his first time in the baby ball pit. Maybe it was because I had specifically asked her and she had said no. It couldn't have been the wasted money, since we have been known to waste much more, but it did kinda irk me. Anyway, I told her to hold it, but then she started to do the potty dance. You know the knees pressed together, bouncing, half squatting look. Dang, she really had to go. So I called the attendant over, paid full price for their 5 min., all the while leaving Adam in the balls as long as possible, and we went to the bathroom. I then took them to the free padded room so they could continue to play. I don't know how many times I had to explain to Mary why we couldn't go back to the "airy balls" like she wanted. Each time I tried to explain it to her, I felt my blood pressure rising and I kept getting more upset. I had to keep reminding myself that she's only 3. I did assume some blame and admitted that after 2 hours in the car I should have immediately taken her to the bathroom without even asking her. So here are some pictures from our adventure. I wish I had more.
"Hey, I got a ball!"

"Hmm, are two better than one?"

Mary kept running laps. I couldn't get a clear picture since she wouldn't hold still. At least I can be thankful she had a chance to burn some energy.
Adam figure if he stayed in the middle, he could watch his crazy sister and still be safe from trampling.

The true test of a good quality play time is "how do your feet taste?" Awww, gross Adam.
